Our Story

Mick and his father TK “creating” floor plans back in the 1990’s

American Housing Builders was established in 1991 with a philosophy of quality and integrity.  American Housing Builders II, Inc. remains one of the most respected new home builders on Florida’s west coast.  Mick McKenzie, the owner and President, comes from a long line of successful home builders.  His grandfather, Walter McKenzie, was a home builder in Pinellas County and his father, T.K. McKenzie, built homes in Pinellas and Manatee Counties for over 40 years.  T.K. was a pioneer in the building industry.  He instilled values of quality workmanship and integrity in all of his homes, as in everything he pursued.

Valerie and her father Mick “updating” new home designs in the 2020’s

Mick’s daughter Valerie was raised around the building industry as well and also strives for the same ideals as her father, grandfather and great grandfather did. Valerie, along with Jerry Robinson, also the son of a new home builder, will be taking over American Housing Builders II one day and they both look forward to bringing American Housing II into a new era of new home designs and energy efficiency. Valerie and Jerry will continue to maintain the same values of high-quality workmanship and the same integrity in all of their New Homes.

Mick was raised in the building industry and was licensed as a Florida State Certified Residential Contractor in 1978 and a Florida State Certified Building Contractor in 2001.  Mick’s motto has always been to “strive to build homes as if we were going to live in them ourselves and to treat our customers as if they were family.”  American Housing Builders continues to value high-quality workmanship and integrity, while offering new energy-efficient homes at affordable prices.
